A Little About Us and our background

Well Heeled

About us at Well Heeled Ltd

A little (very short!) history of the term ‘Well Heeled’

Most of us have heard of the term ‘Well-Heeled’ before now and some of us understand it to relate to being well off financially, or just plain filthy rich!  Well, would you be surprised that the term ‘Well Heeled” has a much more interesting history or etymology to it than that?

Using the term ‘Well Heeled’ used to refer to cock fighting (Yep you read that right!) and the use of sharp, dangerous spurs supplied to those that could afford to dress their fighting birds in, shall we say, more ‘substantial’ (with that I mean dangerous) fighting ‘gear’.  This was mainly within the United States of America and referred to the American frontier slang variations of being ‘well equipped’ or ‘well supplied’.

So, you can see, when we refer to people as being ‘Well Heeled’ we are meaning that that are well equipped or have the money to prepare themselves in a well equipment manner.  Nowadays, this refers to people having money or being wealthy and well-to-do.

Well Heeled

What’s in a Name?

So why did I choose the name Well Heeled Ltd?  To me, not only is the term already an off-shoot form what it used to be, but it is also used frequently to refer to the feet.  Generally speaking, it means to be wearing good shoes, but to me it also means to have good foot health – to be ‘well heeled’.

Well Heeled Ltd was founded by me, Anthony, with the focus remaining on good foot care, especially for those more vulnerable such as people experiencing and living with diabetes or other health issues that can directly impact on our foot health and more.

Health & Social Care Professional Background

I have worked in health and social care for over 20 years and wanted to use that experience to help me build this brand and the products that, I hope, you will buy, try and love to use.  It’s incredibly important for me to ensure that any product Well Heeled Ltd provides is fit for purpose (unlike those spurs mentioned early!) so I work with professionals and others to gain valuable feedback – including from you, the buyer and end user.

Flagship Product

My flagship product, the ShapedUp design Diabetic Sock has been developed in conjunction with The Royal College of Podiatry and professional, registered podiatrists to ensure it meets the needs of those living with diabetes.  But more than that, Well Heeled Ltd is a small UK business that really dos care about the people buying and using its products – Well Heeled is my own company and an extension of my time and experiences working within the NHS, Social Services, nursing homes and mental health services to name a few.  I am still a registered social worker and assessor within health and social care – updating my own standards and education from a ground floor perspective to ensure that I can be proud of any product I sell.

So you can see, the term Well Heeled means so much more to me, to us.  As a company, Well Heeled will be looking at more products in the future, working with professionals to further develop products and bring them to you and others, such as loved ones you may care for.

An ‘Open’ Business Policy – not just ‘open for business’!

Well Heeled is also an open business where you can link with me on social media platforms such as Twitter and LinkedIn – although I ask you to use our contact us page for product and delivery inquiries as I don’t want then to get lost in the deluge of social media posts – but feel free to join me and share your own experiences and stories of foot care or more!  I love learning from you and others and that can help make the Well Heeled brand and products even more meaningful.
